We were designed to do life with other people. We know that, God cares for people through people. For this reason we make every effort to be a church community where people are known and loved. (Matthew 19:19b)
"Do this in remembrance of me." Every week the congregation is led in communion, we take time to recall the sacrifice of Jesus and remember the forgiveness that we have been given, alongside the promise of the New Covenant, which is made possible by the blood of Jesus. (1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
We value God's Word and believe that God continues to speak to us through the Bible. We believe that careful studying of God's Word, will result in spiritual growth and life change. (Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 12:2)
We believe in the power of prayer. Pray is the continuous and on going conversation between God and his people. We encourage everyone to have a person prayer life and be involved congregational prayer. (Matthew 6:6, Matthew 21:13)
We value relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus is our hope and our salvation. Jesus in our reason for living and in Him we discover that we were created on purpose for a purpose! (Acts 2:21, Ephesians 2:8-10)
We value making the message of Jesus easy for people. This means we take steps to speak and act in ways, so that people can understand the love of Christ. (1 Corinthians 9:22)
In 1838, God was dealing with the hearts of two men concerning the souls in Wainfleet Township. These two men, George Thompson and Thomas Bradt, would move to Winger and marry sisters, gathering a following and became the charter members of a new congregation in Christ. The Winger church would become a fixture in the rural farming community of Wainfleet, Ontario. They would need to use the local school house to hold their meetings and then they would erect their first building on Winger Road (1885) and then construct the present church building in 1894 celebrating their fortieth anniversary.
In 1992 a major building campaign took place renovating the existing sanctuary and adding a fellowship hall, kitchen and offices tastefully adjoined to the existing sanctuary - including an elevator and new parking lot. The project was completed on the 150 anniversary year of the church 1994. Then in 2009 on the church's 165th Anniversary saw further upgrades.
Winger church is continuing to grow in impact in Wainfleet community. Our influence has grown through community dinners and toy drives. God is still writing the story of Winger church, and we'd love for you to be a part of that story! Come and participate in the story as we gather to worship together Sundays at 10:30am.
Stephen came on as interim pastor in September of 2021 and has been helping the church navigate this period of transition. He loves the people that call Winger Church home and his goal is to lead in a way that sets the next pastor up to succeed.
